What is PGP?
PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is an asymmetric encryption system that enables two people to communicate privately through any means of communication. Even if the communication medium is not trustworthy, PGP provides complete privacy without the need to exchange any prior encryption codes that could compromise privacy. This is achieved through asymmetric cryptography.
What is a PGP Public Key?
A PGP public key is one of the two keys that a user needs to use the PGP encryption system. Each user participating in the communication will have two keys: a public key that can be published and a private key that will never be shared. The public key can be freely distributed and will be used to encrypt messages but not to decrypt them. Only the person with the private key will be able to decrypt the messages that were encrypted with their corresponding public key.
In this way, two users can mutually publish their public keys, and only those who have their corresponding private keys will be able to decrypt the messages.
